2010 World Pool Championship (entry)

Post  mike on Mon Mar 15, 2010 8:24 am

This is a message on behalf of Ian Moffat SEPF Treasurer
Scotland has been awarded extra spaces at the prestgious
WR WORLD POOL CHAMPIONSHIPS which are being held in Blackpool
at end of June beggining of July 2010, held over 5 days
This is the BIG ONE, the one that we watch on Sky Sports every year
One of these places is now being offered to Levenmouth pool league
Yes,, if we run this A LEVENMOUTH PLAYER WILL DEFINITELY BE IN THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
We would hold a wr qualifiying competition of first 16 entries paying 20 each
and the winner of this, for his 20 would get
1/ Entry Paid to the wr Mens Singles World Pool Championships 2010
2/ Entry Paid to the wr Mens Singles World Pool Masters (held in Blackpool at the same time)
3/ 5 nights paid B&B in Blackpool
4/ 100 travelling expenses

This is a chance for a levenmouth player to taste the big time
and maybe even reach the televised stages (1/4 final onwards)

could anyone interested please post your name on here
could all captains ask their team and post interested players on here
any questions or queries can be posted on here
or you can talk direct to Ian Moffat on 07854036429
A decision on whether we are holding this or not needs to be made soon
as time is limited and the spot could be given to another league
so lets have your names ASAP guys

ok mike so is the qualifying between 20 of us players in leven , we have a knockout competition somewhere in the levenmouth area for 20 each entry then the winner goes forward to blackpool then qualfies there as well.

is this correct or 20 people going to blackpool to play

16 people play off in levenmouth
there will be one winner from these 16
HE alone will be entered and play in the World Championships in blackpool
its really like a trial so that the best perfomer in the trial represents levenmouth at the world championships

To be honest Mike there is no one within the levenmouth pool league anywhere near good enough to be playing at world level. I also thought this tournament was for professional players only.

Just giving my opinion from a common sense and reality point of view Terry. No harm or dis-respect to any participants intended.

bullseye i have to dissagree with you. just because a player from levenmouth doesnt get to the semis or final doesnt mean they wouldnt be good enough to play in this. i played at the european championships and i held my own and had good stats, and mike mchale has played in the world and euros at world rules and done well. am not sayin boys would be goin to winnin it but take deek and baba for example, two great playes who on there day could beat alot of very good players and they dont fear anyone either so a would see no reason for guys like them not to do well. dont get me wrong the guys that you would be playin against are outstanding but how is anyone ever goin to get better if they dont play better. a dont know the rules but im up for it, if i get pumped out then so be it, can only try.

Don't want to sound negitive like the bully, but better check this out very carefully before u enter something like this.

Is it world rules?

Leven don't like change so how can u get 16 guys to play world rules and know them?

What are the reprecussions for players once they play in a national world rules event?

Will they then be barred from SPA events in the same way that Mike McHale now is?

Okay Leven in not part of the SPA but a good few of their players do play in SPA events through other leagues, so is it worth putting all this at risk for one event?

Look before u leap. Exclamation

On a more positive note now gentlemen Ive just been on the phone to Sepp Blatter from FIFA and he now wants to take East Fife f.c. to South Africa in june as a reserve for the world cup in case any teams withdraw because of violence like what happened to Togo at the African cup of nations.

Leven don't like change so how can u get 16 guys to play world rules and know them? Maybe just scrape enuf (my opinion)

What are the reprecussions for players once they play in a national world rules event? They will not be allowed 2 play in BLACKBALL rules events

Will they then be barred from SPA events in the same way that Mike McHale now is? YES

In the same vein are players like BT and SS etc who have played in SPA events barred from entering this?

Seems ludicrous you can't play in more than one version of pool rules.

Would it not need to be a league endorsed tournament to qualify?

I'm not knocking the idea of this but as joe says some of the ramifications need to be looked into.

Anyone from Leven League that only plays in Leven can easily enter this and have no ban or backlash against them.

It is only other's that play in other leagues using Blackball rules that need to be aware.

Could find themselves banned from playing in future SPA organised events Question

At the moment Leven are not affliated to any organisation, like the SPA for instance, they are an independant league.

Rules:-

Some Leven players do not know the rules they play to now, so whatever rules are played they will be like mushrooms anyway. Embarassed jocolor
